Nigeria
Football is said to have come to Africa in 1897 with the formation in Algeria in 1897 of the football section of the Club des Joyeusetés d'Oran, but to Sub-Sahara, outwith South Africa and apart from games played by visiting sailors, it was 1902 and to Nigeria, brought to the native population through education and missionary, Presbyterian Christianity.
